Red Velvet Cake Recipes

ingredients

1 cup Butter
2 1/2 cups Flour
1 1/2 cups Sugar
2 Eggs
1 ounce Red food coloring
1 teaspoon Water
2 teaspoons Cocoa
1 teaspoon Salt -- scant teaspoon
1 teaspoon Baking soda
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 cup Buttermilk
1 teaspoon Vinegar
-----CREAM CHEESE FROSTING-----
8 ounces Cream cheese -- softened
1 pound Powdered sugar
1/4 cup Butter -- softened
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract

directions

  1. Cake: Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, and beat well. Add coloring and water.
  2. Sift flour, salt, soda and cocoa together, and add to creamed mixture with milk and vanilla. Add vinegar (fold in lightly.) Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) round cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  3. Cream Cheese Frosting is delicious on this cake. Frosting: With electric mixer, beat all ingredients together until light and creamy.
